Safe Home Security Overview

shs-logoSafe Home Security gears its business model toward giving the customer, new or existing, total control over their system and account. Their website has a variety of tools that allows the customer to monitor their service plan, and has a straightforward request form that enables interested customers to get a quote and idea about signing up for a system. The company is based in Connecticut but services homes throughout the country and is backed by 25-years in the industry. Safe Home Security caters to over 120,000 customers and counting and is a member of the National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association and the National Fire Protection Association, in addition to operating their own UL-listed central monitoring station. Though they pride themselves on being a customer satisfaction-oriented company, Safe Home is not currently accredited with the Better Business Bureau, who holds them at a C rating. Over 1100 complaints have been filed in the last 3 years, with 301 of them in the last year alone.

Safe Home Security Reviews

Safe Home Security has a handful of positive testimonials on their website, but these seem to be the exceptions to the overall negative opinion of the company. They say that 96% of their customers rate their experience with the company as very good – excellent, but upon digging a little deeper the truth is revealed. The BBB has closed 1120 complaints with Safe Home in the past 3 years, with 301 in the last 12 months. Whereas most security companies have the occasional issue with billing/collection and sales-related problems, the majority of Safe Home’s complaints stem from problems with the equipment and service itself, which is a major flaw. That’s not to say they haven’t experienced complaints with sales, billing, delivery, and warranty issues as well. Safe Home locks customers into a 36-month contract requirement that requires payment of 90% of the remaining balance in the event of cancellation. While this is not unique to Safe Home, many customers have issues with the company’s fine-print auto-renewal system, that jacks up your price without forewarning. Though the company has been in business for 25-years and offers equipment and packages on par with the competition, new customers are advised to do serious due diligence before going with Safe Home, which could turn out to be more of a liability than an asset.

Safe Home Security Equipment

Safe Home Security is an authorized dealer of GE and Security Pro equipment. Their website does not offer a detailed list or specifications of the individual equipment components they offer, but they do offer the basics like door/window connects, interior/exterior motion sensors, smoke detectors, key fobs, emergency panic pendants, and cellphone backup.

Safe Home Security Packages

shsSafe Home Security offers a variety of home security packages ranging in price from $29.95 to $39.95 per month, with installation ranging from zero down up to $399 depending on the package you choose. A list is available on their website that includes burglary basic/ready/premium, fire basic/ready/premium, and medical basic/ready/premium, each with their own set of features and individual incurred monitoring and installation costs. It may be the lack of transparency with package details that turns some customers off, especially when compared to competitor companies that usually have two or three packages to choose from and that clearly lay out the components and costs of each.

New customers are cautioned to tread carefully when inquiring and signing up with Safe Home Security. While every company has its fair share of negative reviews, those complaints are typically the exception and not the rule. With Safe Home, it would appear that more customers have problems with their equipment and service than not. The fact that a home security company with 25-years of experience is not affiliated with the Better Business Bureau and holds a C rating is cause for concern, especially when the company boasts that customer service is their bread and butter.
