American Security Systems Overview

americansecuritysystems-logoAmerican Security Systems was founded in 1980 by a man named Larry Dolin.  He originally worked for General Foods and Procter & Gamble, but he recognized that there was a real need for a security company that provides not only the highest quality products but also amazing service to back it up.  Larry Dolin made this dream come true, and today American Security is the largest independent security provider in New York.  It’s also the 65th largest alarm company in the nation, serving over 8,000 customers in their area.  Their locally owned and operated UL listed and NYCFD approved central monitoring station is known for tremendous customer service and fully trained and accredited employees.  There are many reputable commercial and residential clients of American Security, including AOL Time Warner, UN dignitaries, international film stars, as well as the New York State Attorney General’s Office. The company requires their customers to pay for their security equipment upfront, as well as sign a 3-5 year contract.

American Security Systems Reviews

The reviews for American Security are mostly favorable, however customers do take issue with having to pay for all the equipment in full upfront, and then getting locked into a 3-5 year contract at the same time.  This is a lot of money to spend on a security system, and many customers simply can’t afford it.  Many other companies are more flexible than American Security.  Also, the customer is required to pay the remaining balance in full should they choose to cancel with American Security early.  This is very rare for a company that required their customers to fully pay for their system in the first place.  For the most part, American Security is considered to be one of the best in New York, and should you live in the area and have cash to burn, then going with this company is a good decision.  However, if you’re not looking to own your security system or you don’t want to get locked into a huge contract, then it’s probably a good idea to look elsewhere.  Customers have written some very good reviews about the service that American Security provides, and are overall pleased with the performance of the equipment and the technical support that the company provides.

American Security Systems Equipment

American Security usually installs a Honeywell wireless system into their customers homes.  Honeywell is a highly trusted brand of equipment that is known for its excellent performance and durability.  With the purchase of your system, you get a control panel, keypad, siren, one door sensor, and one motion sensor.  This equipment costs just about $1000 upfront, and this includes installation by a trained professional.  Monitoring this system after installation is generally $35 a month for a 36 to 60 month contract.  Should this basic package not be sufficient for your security needs, you can add extra coverage of doors and windows, but this could bump the cost of the system up to as much as $1,500 to $2,000.  This is a lot of money to spend on a security system, and there doesn’t seem to be any info on American Security’s site about warranty.  Do make sure you ask about this over the phone as being locked in a long contract and owning expensive equipment without a warranty is a recipe for disaster and huge fees down the line.

American Security Systems Home Security Packages

americansecuritysystemsThe basic Honeywell wireless package is the standard American Security residential package, and things can be added to it to make it more comprehensive.  When assessing your home and designing the package specifics, a trained professional will check the perimeter of your home for all potential points of entry.  They use contact, shock, and glass break sensors.  There’s also a video intercom system available that allows you to see the front door, back door, or both, and should you see something in the monitor that is not good, there’s a “panic button” to immediately notify the control center and the police department that there is a problem.  The dual sensors that are provided are able to register body heat, and this means that there are fewer occurrences of false alarms.  Some additional protection that can be added to your package include CO2 detection, high and low temperature sensors, 24-hour smoke detection, and all these added monitors are tracked by the UL certified central station.
